Adjacent to the Breakwater quarry a small tank was built to store a petrol, diesel and creosote mix that is reported to have supplied the flamethrowers on the breakwater.[1][2] The complex, including the now demolished tanks on the site of the current quarry car-park (SX95NW/136), was clearly of considerable significance in terms of launching and re-fuelling craft, and their defence.[3][4]
