Full description

Torbay HER record (SMR record). SDV361984.

The present 2-storey double-fronted house seems an early 19C remodelling of 18C; double-depth in plan, with small rear projection to right, the 3-window front faces north. However place name evidence records 'Caster' in 1621. [1] The 1842 tithe map and tithe apportionment record many 'castor' fieldnames in the vicinity of the later steam mill. This is present as the 'West of England Steam Mills (Corn)' on the 1862 OS First Edition County Series 1:2500.
