Summary

Bowl Barrow 520 metres west of Higher Welsford, representing an outlier to a nearby round barrow cemetery. Its outer ditch is partly visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs dating to 1946. The barrow mound, visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs taken in 1959, is oval in shape, perhaps a result of dragging of the material by the plough.

Visited 15th September 1965. Bowl barrow under grass. Diameter 22 paces, height 0.6m.

Visited 6th December 1978. Grass covered bowl barrow, 25 metres in diameter, and 0.6 metres in height, with no trace of a ditch.

Visited 8th November 1979. Diameter 21.5 metres, height 0.3 metres. Low mound barely discernible in pasture field. Very flattened by ploughing. No sign of ditch. Poor condition.

A bowl barrow situated on a high upland ridge known as Welsford Moor overlooking the valley of a tributary to Seckington Water. The monument survives as a circular mound which measures 21.5 metres in diameter and is 0.5 metres high. The surrounding quarry ditch from which material to construct the mound was derived is preserved as a buried feature which measures approximately 3 metres wide. This barrow represents an outlier to a nearby round barrow cemetery which is the subject of a separate scheduling.
