Full description

Torbay HER record (SMR record). SDV361984.

A medieval cross shaft and a possible medieval base is situated in the churchyard, south of the church. The pedestal of three square steps of local red breccia stone bearing a square granite socket stone with a moulded top edge. The crosspiece is a 19C/20C restoration. There is a slender, tapering octagonal cross shaft, about 4 metres high, with decayed stops and a replaced granite crosspiece. An unusual survival not in situ.[1][2]

The bottom step measures 3.2 x 3.2 metres and the upper one 1.7 x 1.7 metres. The three steps stand to a total height of 1.1 metres upon which the socket stone, 1.0 metres square and 0.4 metres high, is set. The base of the shaft has sides of 0.4 metres.[3]
