The remains of the medieval manorhouse; the present name of the courthouse derives from its use as such for the trials of smugglers - indeed small cellars remain in the basement. The 2-storey and attic house is of cob and ashlar sandstone is late 16C in origin, extended and altered in the 20C, with a gabled roof of thatch and pantiles; the stacks with rendered shafts; the windows are contemporary sash and casements. The plan overall is L-shaped with the main range and doorway into the former cross-passage at the right end the cross wing is altered and projects, with inside a fine parlour on the ground floor and a closet which has a small timber-framed window. The ceiling is of richly-moulded intersecting beams. The fireplace has been reduced in size; a blocked newel stair alongside has a timber arched doorway. The first-floor retains a similar doorway at the top of the stairs. List description at [1].

A site visit on 16 November 1952 discovered a datestone in the attic inscribed "1617" and described the house as 'featureless', it being used then as a guesthouse. It has since been converted into holiday flats. {2}
