A spanish coin was found on Torre Abbey sands on 18 February 1877. It bore the Spanish royal arms and the word 'Hispano' on one side and 'Carolus III 1759' (or 1799?) ' Dei Gratia' on the other. also Torquay Directory of 21 December 1877
