Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2018-2019, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 1, Haldon Ridge to Dart Valley (AI&M) (Interpretation). SDV361305.

Earthworks of a prominent sub-circular mound, circa 20m diameter, with internal pit, circa 4.5m diameter, are visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2018, within Great Plantation, Ilsington. Woodland of Great Plantation is shown in this location on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map and supports the interpretation that the earthworks likely pre-date the planting of this woodland. The earthworks are tentatively interpreted as either spoil associated with the adjacent medieval or post-medieval tin workings (MDV61846), or else a post-medieval to early 19th century ornamental tree mound. The earthworks are not visible on other available digital imagery owing to dense tree cover.
