Oval and irregularly shaped pits and linear and irregularly shaped mounds are visible as earthworks on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, within Gavrick Copse, Ilsington. The earthworks, which occupy an area of circa 1.20 hectares, coincide with woodland shown in this location on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map, supporting the interpretation that they had passed out of use by this time. The earthworks are interpreted as the extractive pits and spoil heaps of medieval or post-medieval tin workings or possible possible streamworks likely associated with those recorded on the eastern side of the A38 within Gavrick Copse, Pitt’s Plantation and Blacksticks Plantation (MDV61846).
