The Wheal Tamar Leat (1821-1842), SX4440 7004 to SX4394 7125
This leat took its water from the tailrace of the Canal Incline's water engine and was first proposed in 1803 as an extension of the main line of the canal but was actually built in 1821-22 and ran on the 70 metre contour west and then north from the canal terminus along an extremely steep and rocky part of the Tamar valley side, twice requiring tunnels to be driven through rocky ridges. These measures 23 metres and 68 metres long; the latter, beneath Pleasure (or Morwell) Rock had a major kink where it struck a barren lode halfway (Fig 7.11).
The leat reached an overshot water engine (about 40 foot by 3 foot) in the Impham Valley, 260 metres east-north-east of Weir Head.
