A much-modified two storey toll house (citing Kanefsky 1976).

Bowden, Totnes. On the A381 Totnes to Kingsbridge road, half a mile south of Totnes, just before the fork of the old turnpike road to Ashprington and Dartmouth, now only a footpath. A much modified two-storey building on the east side of the road.

Former toll house at Bowden Gate thought to have been built in the 19th century for the Totnes and Bridgetown-Pomeroy Turnpike Trust. It takes the form of a two storey, vernacular house with a prominent, enclosed porch and a hipped slate roof. There is a small bay window in the roadside elevation. The house has been altered but mapping indicate that it originated as a toll house.
