Parallel earthwork ridges, circa 5m wide, are visible on aerial photographs taken from 1948 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, to the northwest of Little Bovey Farm, Bovey Tracey. The visible banks are closely spaced and north to south aligned, although the northern 0.27 hectares are also cross-aligned to the northwest to southeast. The banks coincide with an orchard depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map of the late 19th century, although by 1948 aerial photographs show that the orchard has been completely cleared. The presence of an orchard in this location supports the interpretation the earthworks represent possible 19th century tree planting banks, the fruit trees being established on the earthworks for increased soil depth and improved drainage.
