Summary

A curvilinear ditch, visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs taken in 1965 and an earthwork on images derived from lidar data captured in 2013, is interpreted as the remains of a medieval field boundary or perhaps a quarry track, that went out of use before the mid-19th century.

A curvilinear ditch, approximately 3.5 metres wide, is visible as an earthwork on images derived from lidar data captured in 2013, and as a pale cropmark on aerial photographs taken in 1965. It fits into the surrounding field pattern depicted on the 19th century maps, which has been characterised as medieval in origin, and terminates at its eastern end at the corner of an extant field. At its western end it appears to terminate at a quarry depicted on the late-19th century mapping. It is possible that it was a trackway linking the quarry to the farmstead, or a field boundary that fell out of use before the mid-19th century.
