Linear and irregularly shaped pits, incised channels and mounds are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1948 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, within Five Wyches Copse, Bovey Tracey. The earthworks are largely random in form and occupy an area of circa 2 hectares. They do not correspond with any features in this location on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map, or on later available historic maps, supporting the interpretation that they had passed out od use by this time. The earthworks are interpreted as the extractive pits, stream channels and associated spoil mounds of a possible medieval or post-medieval streamworks. Earthworks of a similar, but more extensive streamworks are visible circa 300m to the southwest (MDV19917). Further investigations, such as targeted trenching is recommended to help define the character of these earthworks.
