Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2018-2019, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 1, Haldon Ridge to Dart Valley (Interpretation). SDV361305.

Parallel earthwork ridges, circa 5m wide, are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1948 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, at Whitstone Farm, Bovey Tracey. The visible banks are closely spaced, are northnorthwest to southsoutheast and northwest to southeast aligned and occupy an area of approximately 0.58 hectares of northeast facing slope. The banks coincide with an orchard depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25-inch map and is moderately planted with trees in 1948. The presence of an orchard in this location supports the interpretation the earthworks represent possible 19th century tree planting banks, the fruit trees being established on the earthworks for increased soil depth and improved drainage. Digital images derived from aerial photographs taken between 1999-2000 show the former orchard has largely been given over to woodland.
