Six sub--oval pits, between 13m to 23m long, are visible as earthworks on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, within Furzeleigh Plantation, Bovey Tracey. The visible earthworks do not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the available 19th century mapping which shows the area as woodland. They are interpreted as post-medieval or early 19th century extractive pits which had likely passed out of use when the area was given over to woodland by the late 19th century. The earthworks are not visible on other available aerial imagery owing to thick tree cover.
