Earthworks of ditches, circa 5m wide, partly flanked by banks, between 3m to 5m wide, are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1948 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, at Reeve’s Combe, Bovey Tracey. The earthworks largely correspond with a track shown in this location on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map of the late 19th century. However, a short section of ditch with outer banks visible to the east does not correspond with any features on this map and is likely evidence that an earlier phase of trackway existed. This was evidently more formalised as a ditch and double-banked feature and possibly provided access to and from Reeve’s Combe (MDV86377) off the road to the east. This curvilinear access track had evidently passed out of use by the late 19th century, by which time it had been partly re-utilised as a less formal track cutting across the field.
