A well-defined rectilinear cutting, circa 33m long by 30m, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs taken in 1979 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, at Fludda, Hennock. The earthwork does not correspond with any features in this location on the Parish Tithe Map of the mid-19th century, or on later available historic maps. It’s regular form and proximity to buildings of Fludda (MDV8974) support the interpretation that the earthwork represents a possible cutting for an associated medieval or post-medieval structure which was demolished by the mid-19th century. Alternatively, the earthwork may represent an extractive pit of post-medieval or 19th century date.
