Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2018-2019, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 1, Haldon Ridge to Dart Valley (Interpretation). SDV361305.

Parallel earthwork ridges were visible under light tree cover on aerial photographs of 1946, on the south-east facing slopes south of New House Farm, Mamhead. The closely spaced banks are on average 6 metres wide and are aligned obliquely cross-contour. They are interpreted as banks made to enhance drainage and provide additional depth of soil within an orchard.
The plot in which the banks are visible is depicted as an orchard on the Tithe Map for Mamhead (Plot 183, Cot Orchard). The banks were therefore probably created prior to circa 1840. The banks are not visible as earthworks on images derived from aerial photographs of 2010 and have probably been levelled.
