Four earthwork pits, in small irregular fields to the west of St Mary’s Church, are visible on aerial photographs taken in the 1940s and 1950s and on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. The four plots in which the earthworks are located are recorded in the Tithe apportionment as orchard or with 'rock' components, with names including 'Quarry Orchard', 'Kiln Orchard' and 'Lime rocks' and orchard trees are depicted in these locations on the late-19th century mapping. The earthworks are interpreted as post-medieval quarry pits, probably for extracting limestone, which were later re-used for orchard in the 19th and early-20th century.
