Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.
The visible earthworks do not correspond with any pit depicted on the OS 1880s First Edition 25inch map.

A pit is visible as an earthwork.

A shallow pit is visible as an earthwork circa 23 by 15m is size on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2013, west of Colley Lane, Court Bottom, Ashcombe. The function of the pit is unknown. The pit does not correspond with any feature depicted on the 19th century maps available to the survey but the close proximity of a gravel pit depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map might support an interpretation as a gravel pit.
