The visible earthworks correspond inpart with a gravel pit depicted on the OS 1880s First Edition 25inch map.

A pit is visible as an earthwork.

An irregularly shaped pit is visible as a shallow earthwork up to 75m across on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2013, on the south-west facing slopes west of the A380 in Haldon Forest, Chudleigh.
The pit corresponds in part with a gravel pit depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map and is therefore interpreted as evidence of a gravel pit of possible 19th century date.
