Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments (Cartographic). SDV359954.

The visible earthworks correspond with boundaries depicted on the Tithe map for Dawlish.

The visible earthworks do not correspond with any boundaries depicted on the OS 1880s First Edition 25inch map.

Curvilinear ditches are visible as earthworks.

Two curvilinear hollows up to circa 10m wide and 196m long are visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. The visible feature correspond with field boundaries depicted on the Tithe Map for Dawlish but not the Ordnance Survey First Edition map of circa 1880. The ditches are interpreted as the remains of field boundaries, possibly strip field boundaries of medieval origin, that were removed between circa 1840 and 1880.
