Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2018-2019, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 1, Haldon Ridge to Dart Valley (Interpretation). SDV361305.

Parallel earthwork ridges on average 5 metres wide were visible under tree cover on aerial photographs of 1946, crossing the contours of the north-east facing slopes.
The plot in which the banks are visible is depicted as an orchard on the Tithe Map for Dawlish (Plot 34, Orchard). The banks were therefore probably created prior to circa 1840. Such banks are typically interpreted as made to enhance drainage and provide additional depth of soil within a traditional orchard.
Most orchard trees had been removed from the orchard by circa 1965. All trees had been cleared and the banks possibly levelled by 2015.
