Full description

Eight shafts were sunk on the line of the tunnel (between 1804-1811), of which seven were completed (Remfry's was aborted due to hitting an Elvan dyke 16 fathoms from the surface).
Remfry's Shaft was only dug to 16 fathoms (29 metres) from surface. It lies within Morwelldown Plantation and was replaced by Williams' Shaft, which lies a little to the north-east.
The shaft lies within a low flat-topped dump, with a clearly defined balance bob pit to its north-east. The site of the shaft is a roughly square depression, apparently filled in, possibly with part of Williams' Shaft spoil.
