Pye, A., 2010, 1 The Mede, Topsham: Watching Brief (Report - Watching Brief). SDV362764.

An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by Exeter City Council's Archaeologist at 1 The Mede, during a small scale residential development.

A deep, steep sided cut was recorded crossing the trench on a northeast southwest alignment. This was cut from just below the modern topsoil and its lower fill contained occasional coal and slate fragments, indicating a later post medieval date. The lack of slumped natural material within its base indicates that it was only open for a very short time, or for some reason it was regularly cleaned out during its life. Its function/purpose is not clear; there was no evidence of this in its fill, it is too deep and substantial to represent a field boundary ditch or tree pit.

No pre modern finds or pre post medieval building materials were present.
