An irregularly shaped pit, circa 65m long by 25m wide, is visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. The visible earthwork does not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the available 19th century mapping. It lies within land parcel 1645 on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map, which is recorded as ‘Stollage Plantation’ on the accompanying Tithe Apportionment. The earthwork is interpreted as a post-medieval or early 19th century quarry which is likely to have passed out of use when the area was given over to woodland by the mid-19th century. The presence of a late 19th century quarry (MDV58880) shown to the east of the earthwork on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of the late-19th century adds support to this interpretation. The earthwork is not clearly visible on other available aerial imagery owing to tree cover.
