Full description

The visible earthworks do not correspond with any route depicted on the Tithe map for Dawlish.

The visible earthworks correspond with a trackway depicted on the OS 1880s First Edition 25inch map.

Curvilinear earthwork ditches and scarps up to 7m wide and circa 270m long are visible following the west edge of a field boundary to the west of Southwood Plantation, Dawlish. The earthworks appear to be a southern continuation of a trackway depicted to the north on the Tithe Map for Dawlish and correspond with a double trackway depicted on the Ordnance Survey 25inch First Edition map. The earthworks are interpreted as a trackway, possibly a hollow way, of possible medieval origin.
