Parallel earthwork ridges on average 6 metres wide were visible as earthworks on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, crossing the contours of the north-east facing combe slopes. Such banks are typically interpreted as made to enhance drainage and provide additional depth of soil within an orchard.
The plot in which the banks are visible is listed as an orchard on the Tithe Apportionments for Dawlish (Plot 1629). The creation of the banks can therefore probably be dated to before 1840. The orchard remained moderately planted into 1946. The banks are obscured from view by dense tree cover on images derived from aerial photographs of 2015.
