An irregularly shaped pit, circa 45m long by 12m wide, is visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. The visible earthwork does not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the available 19th century mapping, although it does coincide with an area of woodland on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map of the late 19th century. The earthwork is interpreted as a post-medieval or early 19th century extractive pit or quarry which had passed out of use by the time the area had been given over to woodland by the late 19th century. The earthwork is not visible on other available aerial imagery owing to thick tree cover.
