A number of sub-oval and irregularly shaped pits, between 6m to 45m long, are visible as earthworks on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. The earthworks do not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the available 19th century mapping. They are interpreted as possible post-medieval or early 19th century extractive pits or quarries which had likely passed out of use by the late 19th century. The earthworks are not visible on other available aerial imagery owing to thick tree cover in this location.
