Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments (Cartographic). SDV359954.

The visible earthworks do not correspond with any boundaries depicted on the Tithe map for Teigngrace.

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

The visible earthworks do not correspond with any boundaries depicted on the OS 1880s First Edition 25inch map, but do match depicted tree locations.

Environment Agency, 1998-2017, LiDAR DTM data (1m resolution) EA: South Devon Coast to Dartmoor, LIDAR SX8573-SX8574 Environment Agency DTM 01-JAN-1998 to 31-MAY-2017 (Cartographic). SDV361470.

Curvilinear banks are visible as earthworks.

Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2018-2019, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 1, Haldon Ridge to Dart Valley (AI&M) (Interpretation). SDV361305.

Curvilinear banks are visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, as earthworks approximately 3m wide and up to circa 120m long, crossing the floodplain west of the River Teign in a roughly north to south direction.
The banks are interpreted as the fragmentary remains of a former field boundary that, considered together, exceeded 670m in length.
The visible earthworks do not correspond with any boundary depicted on the 19th century maps available to the survey but do correspond with discrete tree alignments depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map, probably evidence of former hedgerow planting.
The boundary was therefore probably removed prior to circa 1840. The banks might be the same as those referred to as a possible trackway in monument record MDV21259.
