Two small pits are visible as earthworks on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, in a former orchard plot north-west of Wear Farm. The pits are roughly oval and measure up to 15m and 25m across.
The pits correspond with a small area of limestone geology and were probably limestone quarries. They do not match any features depicted on the 19th century maps available to the survey and had probably passed out of use prior to circa 1840.
The pits might cut the line of a former route, visible as an earthwork and recorded separately as a ‘Supposed British Road’ (MDV30215).
