Parallel earthwork banks, circa 5m wide, are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. The visible banks are closely spaced and are aligned across the contours of the southeast facing combe slope, occupying an area of approximately 0.31 hectares. The banks coincide with land parcel 588 on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map and recorded as ‘Rushpark Orchard’ on the accompanying Tithe Apportionment. The presence of an orchard in this location supports the interpretation the earthworks represent possible 19th century tree planting banks, the fruit trees being established on the earthworks for increased soil depth and improved drainage. The orchard has been partly cleared of trees on aerial photographs taken in 1946 and completely cleared by 1999-2000.
