Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2018-2019, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 1, Haldon Ridge to Dart Valley (Interpretation). SDV361305.

Parallel earthwork banks, circa 4m wide, are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946 and 1951. The visible banks are closely spaced and are broadly aligned across the contours of the east facing combe slope, occupying an area of approximately 0.68 hectares. The banks coincide with a land parcel shown as an orchard on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map. The orchard is also shown here on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map of the late 19th century, although is no longer visible on the Ordnance Survey Second Edition map of the early 20th century and so had evidently passed out of use by this time. The presence of an orchard in this location supports the interpretation the earthworks represent possible 19th century tree planting banks, the fruit trees being established on the earthworks for increased soil depth and improved drainage. The earthworks are not visible on the available aerial imagery after 1951 and their survival is unknown.
