The visible earthworks correspond in part with a boundary depicted on the Tithe map for Newton Abbot.

A curvilinear hollow or ditch up to circa 4m wide and 145m long is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1946. The visible earthworks correspond in part with a field boundary depicted on the Tithe Map for Newton Abbot but not the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map. This supports the interpretation that the earthworks are evidence of former field boundaries, partly cleared prior to circa 1840, partly between circa 1840 and 1880, probably as a consequence of housing development at Knowles Hill.
The earthwork is identifiable in part on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017.
