Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments (Cartographic). SDV359954.

The visible earthworks correspond in part with field boundaries depicted on the Tithe map for Combeinteignhead.

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

The visible earthworks do not correspond with any boundaries depicted on the OS 1880s First Edition 25inch map.

Environment Agency, 1998-2017, LiDAR DTM data (1m resolution) EA: South Devon Coast to Dartmoor, LIDAR SX8971 Environment Agency DTM 01-JAN-1998 to 31-MAY-2017 (Cartographic). SDV361470.

Linear ditches are visible as earthworks.

Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2018-2019, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 1, Haldon Ridge to Dart Valley (Interpretation). SDV361305.

Linear hollows or ditches up to circa 25m wide and up to circa 215m long are visible as earthworks in a T-formation on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017.
The east-west ditch corresponds with a boundary depicted on the Tithe Map for Combeinteignhead, but not the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map. The north-south aligned ditch does not match any boundary depicted on the 19th century maps available to the survey.
The visible earthworks are interpreted as the remains of field boundaries of possible medieval or post-medieval origin, that were cleared partly prior to circa 1840 and partly between circa 1840 and 1880.
