Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2018-2019, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 1, Haldon Ridge to Dart Valley (Interpretation). SDV361305.

Curvilinear scarps are visible on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards as earthworks closely following the contours on the south-east facing combe slopes to the north of Westborough.
The visible earthworks correspond with field boundaries depicted on the Tithe map for Combeinteignhead, but not the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map. The earthworks are interpreted as evidence of strip fields and lynchets of probable medieval date, cleared between circa 1840 and 1880. The lynchets might have continued to north-east but have probably been eroded by the adjacent plot’s reuse as an orchard.
The lynchets remain visible as earthworks on and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, although a section circa 20m wide has been eroded near the south-west end of the earthworks, probably following enclosure into a garden or paddock to the rear of Westborough Court at some point after the year 2000.
