Cropmarks of a ditch on average 2m wide are visible on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2018 on the south-facing slopes west of Hackney Lane. The cropmarks define a rectilinear enclosure circa 40m by 30m across. Two breaks circa 2 to 3m wide visible in the north-east and south-east corners of the enclosure might mark entrances to the interior. The south-west corner of the enclosure is not visible as a cropmark, and a larger entrance might have been located in this quadrant. The enclosure is interpreted as probably later prehistoric to Roman in date.
Many of the aerial photographs consulted are copies of DAPs held by the Historic England Archive. These have been recorded here as separate sources as there is a possibility that variations in processing could result in images on which archaeological features show differently than on the original images.
