Full description
Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, Untitled Source (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV24.
Site of silver mine. Vis=18/9/1953 (os) site "b" of tunnel now under modern road. Vis=est=-/-/1989 (claughton) deep adit entrance (now blocked). Believed to have been commenced mid 17th century (claughton). Vis=main drainage adit to old combmartin mine. Presently covered over, but the back of the adit was encountered during roadworks alongside hotel. Water from a culvert to w of the inn gardens is believed to have come from the adit (rance + weddell, citing letter from p. Claughton, 14/8/1993).
