Summary

A number of linear features and isolated pits were recorded during groundworks on the playing fields at St Peter's School. The initial interpretation is that they represent at least three phases of field systems, the earliest is probably of Bronze Age date.

A number of linear features and isolated pits were recorded during groundworks on the playing fields at St Peter's School. The initial interpretation is that they represent at least three phases of field systems, the earliest is probably of Bronze Age date. A small amount of pottery has been recovered but there is no clear evidence yet of domestic occupation.

A curvilinear ditch (502); possibly an oval enclosure with an overall diameter of 14m was recorded in Area 1, along with another linear ditch thought to be Bronze Age in date. Sherds of Middle Bronze Age pottery were recovered, as well as flint and charcoal. These features appeared to continue into Area 2 to the west.
