An irregularly shaped pit, circa 70m long by 40m wide, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs taken in 1945 and on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2013. The visible earthwork does not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the available 19th century mapping. The earthwork is located within land parcel 477 on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map which is recorded as ‘Rock Orchard’ on the accompanying Tithe Apportionment. The earthwork is interpreted as a post-medieval or early 19th century extractive pit which had likely passed out of use when the area was given over to orchard by the mid-19th century.
