Full description

The visible earthworks do not correspond with any pit depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1880s First Edition map.

Two pits are visisble as earthworks.

Two closely spaced earthwork pits are visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014 on the east facing slopes of Fernhill Wood overlooking the Tony Brook, Shaugh Prior. The pits are irregularly shaped and measure up to 20m across.
The earthworks do not correspond with any pits depicted on the 19th or early 20th century maps available to the survey. They are interpreted as possibly extractive pits or prospecting pits of 18th to 19th century date.
