A circular pit circa 8m in diameter and an irregularly shaped pit circa 9m wide and 33m long are visible as earthworks on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014, descending the east facing slopes of Fernhill Wood overlooking the combe of the Tony Brook, Shaugh Prior. The earthworks do not correspond with any pits depicted on the 19th or early 20th century maps available to the survey.
Directly downslope of the pits a roughly D-shaped platform or terrace circa 35m long and 23m wide is visible on the lidar derived images. This earthwork corresponds to a platform depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1st Edition 6-inch map, abutting a boundary separating it from the pits.
The pits are interpreted as possibly extractive or prospecting pits of 18th to 19th century date.
The platform is interpreted as possibly comprised of spoil from the extractive features.
