Full description
Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.
The visible earthworks do not correspond with any pit depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1880s 25inch First Edition map.

An earthwork pit is visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014 on the west facing slopes of Hooksbury Wood, Shaugh Prior. The pit was irregularly shaped and measured 7m wide and 28m long, crossing the contours of the slope.
The earthwork does not correspond with any pit depicted on the 19th or early 20th century maps available to the survey and had therefore probably passed out of use by the mid-19th century. It is interpreted as possible prospecting pits of post-medieval to 19th century date.
The pit has been destroyed by the western extension of modern quarrying.
