Full description
Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.
The visible earthworks do not correspond with any feature depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1880s 25inch First Edition map, which depicts this location as wooded.

A kidney shaped mound is visible as an earthwork.

An earthwork mound was visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014 on the west facing slopes of Hooksbury Wood, Shaugh Prior. The mound was kidney shaped and measured 7m wide and 15m long.
The earthwork does not correspond with any features depicted on the 19th or early 20th century maps available to the survey which depict this area as woodland throughout the mid to later 19th century. The date and function of the visible earthwork are unknown, but it was therefore probably no longer in use by the mid-19th century.
The mound has been destroyed by the western extension of modern quarrying.
