Narrow curvilinear and sinuous ditches, less than 2m wide, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946 and visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. The earthwork channels follow the contours of the northwest and southeast facing combe slopes and occupy an area of circa 0.76 hectares. They are interpreted as the gutters of a possible catch meadow irrigation system which tapped a spring-fed stream that rises at Lower Preston Farm, with which the system was likely associated. An earthwork of an additional channel probably associated with this system is also visible at circa SX62325341. It has not, however, been transcribed since it is shown on the late 19th century First Edition Ordnance Survey map, but is included within the general monument polygon. Catch meadows were popular in the 19th century but many continued in use into the mid-20th century, although it is unclear whether this system was still in use by this time.
