A platform or terrace circa 83m by 33m in size is visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017 on the west-facing combe slopes under Goodabrook Wood, overlooking the Piall River.
The date and function of the earthwork is unknown. It does not correspond with any feature depicted on the 19th or early 20th century maps available to the survey. It might be the remains of a quarry or extractive pit of post-medieval origin that had passed out of use prior to the 1840s.
Alternatively, it could be the remains of a fishpond of similar but potentially earlier origin, a continuation of a system of linked ponds visible circa 50 to the north (MDV47646).
Further field investigation is recommended.
