Full description
Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.
The visible earthworks do not correspond with any pit depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1880s 25inch First Edition map.

A small pit is visible as an earthwork.

An irregularly shaped pit circa 20m across is visible as an earthwork on the east-facing slopes overlooking the combe of the Piall River.
The visible earthwork does not correspond with any pit depicted on the 19th or early 20th century maps available to the survey, although a pit of similar scale is depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1880s 25inch First Edition map circa 185m to the north-north-west (and has therefore not been transcribed).
It is interpreted as the remains of a quarry or extractive pit of probable post-medieval to 19th century date that had ceased to be used prior to circa 1880.
