An oval pit circa 5m by 7m in size is visible within an irregularly shaped mound up to circa 14m across, on aerial photographs of 1946 on the north-west facing slopes of Hemerdon Ball, Sparkwell.
The earthworks are interpreted as the possible remains of a prospecting pit of probable 19th century date.
The earthworks are not clearly identifiable on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017 and had probably been levelled prior to the destruction of the site by 21st century extraction.
