Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2019-2020, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 2, Avon Valley to Plymouth (AI&M, formerly NMP) (Interpretation). SDV362982.

Two irregularly shaped pits approximately 50m wide and 18m across are visible as earthworks extending over nearly 0.2ha of the south-east facing slopes of Bottle Hill on aerial photographs of 1946 and on visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017.
The pits correspond in part with earthworks depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1880s First Edition 25inch map and therefore predate the late 19th century.
They may represent an early phase of extraction on Bottle Hill, predating the shafts recorded elsewhere in this area (such as the adjacent shaft MDV47981), and are perhaps of medieval or post-medieval date.
